Products & Services…a word from your credit union.

It’s not easy being a credit union.  Did you ever think about it?  In fact, these days why would any institution want to be a credit union?

O.K. Let’s be fair about it and look at both sides of the argument.

Let’s look at the cons.  Nobody knows what or who you are.  Mention at a cocktail party that you are a credit union and people will say “What’s that? Do you have to be in a union to join? Do you only make loans?  Should I come to you only if I need credit?”  NO. NO, and NO.

And another thing!  People can walk right into most any bank and open an account.  Walk into me and you have to qualify to become a member!  Are you a teacher or are you related to one?  Do you work for the county or are you related to a county worker? We have over 500 Select Employee Groups affectionately known as SEGS. Do you work for any of them or are you related to anyone who does?  Blah, blah, blah.

“Do you offer as many accounts as a bank does?”  I probably do and they are way friendlier to use! I explain all of this day in and day out!

“How much does it cost to join?” Nothing!  “I’ll bet your savings and lending rates are lousy.” No, they are pretty good and always competitive! “My greedy bank gets me with fees every day.  You are probably just as bad!” Actually, I offer fewer fees and lower costs.  To be honest, my fees are self-inflicted.  Most members pay no fees at all.

It never ends.  Luckily I have good days, mostly good days that I am suddenly remembering.
I love helping people and, believe me, I get the chance to do just that every day. I make local decisions about loans because I know most of the members I serve.  I know them, their parents, even their kids.  Sort of like It’s a Wonderful Life. And business services?!  I get to talk with people that banks ignore. We talk a lot.

People hate banks, but they seem to love me.  I guess to be fair, to know me is to love me.  Why?  Maybe it is the special people that work for me.  I even get notes and letters telling me how great the service is.  How special a member was treated or how a member was down and out and someone at the credit union took that extra minute to help them out.  If you belong to a credit union, you really feel like you really belong.

Well I guess I talked myself out of complaining.  My members are a great bunch.  They make me what I am and what I will be.

So, go ahead and ask about all of my products and services.  Click on any button on this page for an answer or for more information.  I love the attention, obviously.
