About Tri-Co... a few words from your credit union

Once upon a time, back in the 1930’s, a group of Morris County teachers were discussing how best to purchase a much-needed new car. Cars weren’t as plentiful as they are today, but they were growing in popularity. These teachers thought if they needed family cars, then other people, even their colleagues would certainly require this type of travel at some point in their lives. The teachers decided to lend each other the money at rates much lower than they could get at a bank, even if the bank would lend the money to buy one of those contraptions.

They would take turns borrowing the money and paying it back. Once they paid off their loans, another teacher in the group would take their turn borrowing it…and so on. They shook hands and carried on with their lives. Soon after that they formalized their agreement with each other and Tri-Co was born. Charter number 1151; the one thousandth, one hundred and fifty first credit union in America. A true financial coop created for the benefit of its members.

Tri-Co, as you know, still exists today and does business with surprisingly few changes from the original charter: we work very hard at offering fair and competitive Savings and Lending rates. We care about our members, we try very hard to make your loan requests work, we return phone calls and would prefer to do business face-to-face.

From hardly any assets in the beginning, Tri-Co can now boast well over $143 million in assets and we’re still growing.
